Windows Vista

Post by Hella »

Beta 2 is open to the public.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/g ... eview.mspx
Windows Vista Beta 2 (and RC1) is time-limited, pre-release software that will expire on June 1, 2007.
Now the question is, do I try it?

I dunno...

Know where I can get RDRAM cheap? :?

It's an old Dell. Five or six years old now. Besides hard drive space and RAM, this is a great, great machine. I've looked up the price of upgrading the RAM online, and it's cheaper to buy a new PC.

Rambus never really took off, it was quick but the heat and price forced it into obscurity (the N64 used it), your cheapest rout is ebay or a new computer :(

Well, what I think I am going to do is move my stuff on my PC over to Ali's PC, and then use my PC as a music bitch and nothing else. No Photoshop, no web browsing, just music.

I do everything on my laptop anyway. I can't justify myself buying a new computer if I am never going to use it. Plus, there are 2 or 3 older computers at Ali's parent's house sitting in the garage. I am going to rummage through them to see what kind of RAM they have.

How would I do something like that? Can you point me to a tutorial or something?

And would I, on an Apple, be able to pull stuff off of that? Because on iTunes, I can share the music and any other computer on my router with iTunes open can listen to my PC's library.

If you want to run a true server you can install all the LAMP stuff (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) or you can get XAMMP, but that runs PHP 5 I think (they may have one with 4)

If you just want a file server

http://sourceforge.net/projects/hfs/

A simple web server

http://www.analogx.com/contents/downloa ... /sswww.htm

Shoutcast (youll need winamp)

http://www.shoutcast.com/

ftp server

http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/

All of them are pretty easy to install except shoutcast, filezilla might be slightly trick and the hfs doesnt need to be installed. You may also want to run hamachi and tight vnc on it so you dont always have to go to it and work on it.
