1046 - Nosferatu the Vampire (1979) - 7/10 - The cinematography was great and I thought the performances were very good, especially Kinski as Dracula. However, I thought the film was lacking something. It may have been the pacing since I thought the film was too languid at times. Still, it was good.

:610:
1047 - Inferno (1980) - 6/10 - I thought the soundtrack and visuals were decent in the second film in Argeno's 'Three Mothers' trilogy, but I didn't think the story itself was all that great. I did like it more than Suspiria, though.

:710:
1048 - Possession (1981) - 7/10 - This is kind of like two films in one. In the first part, a man (Sam Neill) returns home and is having marital problems with his wife (Isabelle Adjani). She decides that she wants a divorce and he wants to find out why plus there is the care of their son to be determined. Then things get weird. Does this film count as tentacle porn? I liked the film and think Neill and Adjani gave good performances, but it did get crazy.

:7510:
1049 - Tenebrae (1982) - 7.5/10 - An American author arrives in Rome to promote his latest book about a serial killer, Then somebody starts killing people interested in the author's work. Overall, it is a good film with a few twists and turns.

:510:
1050 - The 4th Man (1983) - 5/10 - A writer starts having visions which are often violent. He starts seeing a woman who was in the audience at one of his lectures and he starts having visions about her. I couldn't really get into this one at all.

:610:
1051 - Stranger Than Paradise (1984) - 6/10 - Willie lives in New York City and his Hungarian cousin Eva comes to stay with him for a short time before moving on to Cleveland to live with Willie's aunt. Willie and a friend later go on a road trip to visit. I didn't think the acting was very good and the film isn't all that interesting, though I did like the last 10 minutes or so.

:710:
1052 - Day of the Dead (1985) - 7/10 - A group of scientists try to find a cure for the zombie apocalypse while situated in an underground bunker. They are protected by soldiers as they capture zombies and then experiment on and study them. Things start to unravel as supplies begin to run low without much progress. I enjoyed this for the most part, but would probably rate Dawn of the Dead slightly higher.

:510:
1053 - In a Glass Cage (1986) - 5/10 - A former Nazi who also enjoyed torturing and killing young boys tries to commit suicide in Spain, but ends up paralyzed and in an iron lung. A young man who says that he is a nurse is hired to take care of him, but has his own secret agenda. The production values seemed fine, but I didn't like the story or movie very much.

:7510:
1054 - A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) - 7.5/10 - Freddy's back and so is Nancy Thompson from the first movie, though now she's an adult who is set on helping teens with dream problems. I thought this was fun. Patricia Arquette makes her film debut here. It's been 30+ years since I saw the first Nightmare on Elm Street film and I don't remember much about it. I don't remember if I ever saw the second film.

:710:
1055 - The Vanishing (1988) - 7/10 - A man and a woman are in France to go biking during a vacation when she disappears at a gas station. The film is interesting in the way it is put together and what it focuses on. I wanted to like it more, but it is still a good movie.

:410:
1056 - Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989) - 4/10 - An hour plus of weird stuff involving a guy turning into metal. A few funny bits here and there, but not really my thing.

:710:
1057 - Paris is Burning (1990) - 7/10 - A documentary about the drag scene in New York City in the 1980s.

:810:
1058 - Delicatessen (1991) - 8/10 - Meat is scarce so a butcher who also owns an apartment building hires people in order to kill them and sell the meat to his tenants. The sets and production design are great plus the story is pretty funny in a dark way.

:510:
1059 - Man Bites Dog (1992) - 5/10 - A documentary film crew follows around (and assists) a serial killer. I'm not much of a fan of mockumentaries and this film isn't an exception.

:810:
1060 - Cronos (1993) - 8/10 - An alchemist in the 1500s invents a device to extend his life. An elderly antiques dealer in the 1990s finds the device in the base of a statue and finds that the device works, though there is a cost. There is also somebody who is looking for the device and will use any means to acquire it. I've enjoyed many del Toro films and this one is certainly no exception. It's not up there with Pan's Labyrinth, but it is entertaining.

:6510:
1061 - Cemetery Man (1994) - 6.5/10 - A cemetery worker and his assistant have their hands full when the dead start coming back to life. It's a decent horror comedy and there are plenty of things that I enjoyed, but I didn't think it reached its potential.

:7510:
1062 - Desperado (1995) - 7.5/10 - Antonio Banderas takes over the El Mariachi role about a man seeking revenge for the death of his lover. He travels around with a guitar case full of guns. There is a ton of action and the film moves at a nice pace. Steve Buscemi was funny and Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas were each good.

:810:
1063 - Tesis (1996) - 8/10 - Angela (Ana Torrent) is a university student working on a thesis involving violence in cinema. Her investigation into the subject leads to uncovering of a snuff film involving a woman who went missing from the school two years earlier. It's hard for her to know who to trust as there seem to be a number of possible suspects. This is the first film I've seen Torrent in as an adult and I thought that she did a very nice job, which isn't surprising based on her work as a child actress. I also thought Fele Martínez was good as Chema.

:6510:
1064 - Funny Games (1997) - 6.5/10 - A husband, wife, and young son arrive at their vacation home. Two young men, who the family observed visiting their neighbor, arrive at their door and start playing twisted games with them. The film is well made and I think it was a decent film. I can see why some would love it, but I was kind of bored through much of it.

:810:
1065 - Ringu (1998) - 8/10 - I saw the American remake of this 20 years ago when it came out and enjoyed it, but never got around to watching the original. This was pretty entertaining and I liked it about the same as the remake, perhaps even a little more.

:710:
1066 - Beau travail (1999) - 7/10 - Join the French Foreign Legion for adventure and thrills. Okay, not exactly what this film is about, though it does involve the French Foreign Legion and one sergeant's life there. It looks great and seems very contemplative at times, though it didn't really grab my interest through much of it.

:6510:
1067 - The Isle (2000) - 6.5/10 - A mute woman runs a fishing business where people rent small floating cabins. She ferries them out and also brings supplies and fulfills other needs. She starts a relationship with one of the customers who appears to be on the run from the law. It's an interesting film with good cinematography, though there are some parts which are not easy to watch.

:810:
1068 - The Others (2001) - 8/10 - Nicole Kidman and her two children live in a big country house on the island of Jersey just after WWII. Her husband has been gone for some time, presumed killed in the war, and her children have a sensitivity to light. Meanwhile, three new servants are hired just before spooky things start happening in the house. Kidman and the supporting cast do a very nice job in this gothic horror film.

:6510:
1069 - Bubba Ho-Tep (2002) - 6.5/10 - An aging Elvis Presley (Bruce Campbell) and John F. Kennedy (Ossie Davis) battle an Egyptian mummy in a nursing home. Sounds like fun, but some of the first hour was kind of tedious. I liked Ossie Davis quite a bit in this, though, and it did get better in the last half hour.

:810:
1070 - Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring (2003) - 8/10 - A very nice meditation on the circle of life. An elderly monk is raising a young boy on a floating temple in the middle of a remote lake. Each segment of the film takes us to a new phase of the boy's life.

:510:
1071 - Night Watch (2004) - 5/10 - The forces of light and darkness do battle in Moscow. There were a few interesting bits here and there, but overall it wasn't very good.

:710:
1072 - The Beat That My Heart Skipped (2005) - 7/10 - Tom is involved in real estate like his father. However, these real estate deals often involve having to rough people up or dirty tricks such as planting rats on a site. Tom's dreams of being a concert pianist are rekindled when he happens to run across his mother's former manager, but getting out of the life he's in isn't easy. The film had its ups and downs, but overall I enjoyed it.

:810:
1073 - The Host (2006) - 8/10 - When toxic chemicals are released into a river in Korea, a strange creature is the result. It kills a number of people while on a rampage and also takes a young girl back to its lair. Her family fights to try and get her back. Meanwhile, the government has been taking measures to fight a virus that they say is tied to the monster. This is a very nice monster movie.

:310:
1074 - Paranormal Activity (2007) - 3/10 - I don't really get why this movie was so popular when it came out. I think it's a pretty bad film, even if it was made on a shoestring.

:710:
1075 - Séraphine (2008) - 7/10 - This film is a biopic about the later life of french artist Séraphine Louis. She was working as a cleaning lady when a German art dealer discovered that she painted in her spare time. He promoted her work and ended up becoming her patron. WWI and the Great Depression caused problems along the way. It's not the most interesting film, but it is serviceable and not bad overall.

:810:
1076 - Fish Tank (2009) - 8/10 - Mia is an angry 15 year old British teen in a poor neighborhood who dreams of being a dancer. She lives with her single mother and younger sister when her mother gets a new boyfriend. Newcomer Katie Jarvis does a nice job as Mia with Michael Fassbender as the boyfriend. The film comes off as being pretty realistic while also being engaging and entertaining.

:8510:
1077 - I Saw the Devil (2010) - 8.5/10 - A government agent seeks revenge for the murder and dismemberment of his fiance. He sets out to track down the suspects and inflict pain on the one who took his love away. There is plenty of violence, but the acting and story are good.

:710:
1078 - The Skin I Live In (2011) - 7/10 - A plastic surgeon has invented a synthetic skin which acts much like regular skin. He is also has a complicated past and is keeping a woman prisoner in his home.

:710:
1079 - Holy Motors (2012) - 7/10 - A strange, but interesting film where we follow a man around for a day while he assumes different costumes and roles. He is driven from appointment to appointment in a white limousine.

:610:
1080 - Computer Chess (2013) - 6/10 - The film takes place at a nondescript chess tournament in a hotel during the early 1980s. It features programmers competing to see which of their chess programs is the best. I think that they did a great job capturing the era. I was into computers at the time, got into chess in 1983, and can relate to this a lot. I wanted to like the movie a lot more than I did, but only found the acting and story mildly interesting.

:810:
1081 - An Indian Day (1968) - 8/10 - This documentary was filmed across India in 1967. There is no narration and it doesn't spend too long in any one place, but the music and visuals are very good and I found the film to be pretty interesting. I did laugh at the one bit where a kid was on a tree swing and his swings carried him a little bit over a street with traffic going by.

:810:
1082 - The Raid 2 (2014) - 8/10 - This picks up right after the first Raid movie ended. Rama goes undercover with a crime organization in order to get information on corrupt cops. There is a ton of action and fighting, just like the first film, though this one isn't confined to a single large apartment building. It's very entertaining and on par with the first film.

:6510:
1083 - Ted 2 (2015) - 6.5/10 - There are more of the stupid antics like the ones in the first film. I did like the sequel, but it is not as consistently funny as the first film. There are a number of good bits, though, and Amanda Seyfried was a nice addition to the cast.

:510:
1084 - The Neon Demon (2016) - 5/10 - Elle Fanning stars as Jesse, a 16 year old girl who wants to become a model. She has youth and natural beauty, but this causes jealousy among a few of the older models that she meets. The movie has a lot of style, but I didn't really care for the story, especially after it turns a bit weird toward the end.

:8510:
1085 - Wind River (2017) - 8.5/10 - When the body of an 18 year old Native American girl is found in the snow on a reservation with signs that she had been beaten and raped, an FBI Special Agent (Elizabeth Olsen) is sent to investigate. She enlists the help of the tribal police chief (Graham Greene) and a Fish and Wildlife Agent (Jeremy Renner) in order to investigate the death. The film is very nicely acted and is a good neo-western.

:810:
1086 - Three Identical Strangers (2018) - 8/10 - In 1980, identical triplets reunite after each being previously unaware of the existence of the other two. They were each adopted from the same adoption agency and the agency did not disclose this information. This documentary is pretty interesting and uses archival footage, recreations, and contemporary interviews.

1087 - Child's Play (2019) - 7/10 - Chucky gets a facelift in this remake. He's also now the product of a sabotaged A.I. rather than voodoo. I don't think it is quite as good as the original, but there are parts that are pretty funny and overall It's not bad.

:810:
1088 - A Quiet Place Part II (2020) - 8/10 - I think the second part was almost as good as the first film.

:810:
1089 - Last Night in Soho (2021) - 8/10 - Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie) moves to London to study fashion, but finds that she doesn't fit in with most of the students in her circle there. She starts having dreams and visions of a girl named Sandie (Anya Taylor-Joy) in 1960s Soho. Things seem good with Sandie at first, but soon turn dark. The film has excellent music and nice performances from McKenzie and Taylor-Joy good supporting roles from Michael Ajao and Diana Rigg.

:6510:
1090 - The Munsters (2022) - 6.5/10 - The sets and costumes are pretty cool and the story is okay. I enjoyed the film more than I expected.

:8510:
1091 - Zombieland (2009) - 8.5/10 - I thought it was time for a rewatch and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around.

:710:
1092 - The Glass Key (1942) - 7/10 - Veronica Lake, Alan Ladd, Brian Donlevy, and Bonita Granville in a story with a mix of crooked politicians, criminals, and murder. It's pretty good.

:7510:
1093 - Island of Lost Souls (1932) - 7.5/10 - This adaptation of the HG Wells story features a man (Richard Arlen) who is shipwrecked and then dropped off on an island where Dr, Moreau (Charles Laughton) is running experiments to turn animals into people. It's a pretty nice movie with good black and white cinematography.

:610:
1094 - Bebe's Kids (1992) - 6/10 - Some of the jokes were kind of stale, but this adaptation of a Robin Harris standup routine was okay. It isn't great, but wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

:510:
1095 - Lady in the Lake (1946) - 5/10 - Philip Marlowe is hired to find a missing woman and people start turning up dead. The gimmick of this film is that it is mostly shot from Marlowe's point of view and we rarely get to see more than his hands, except for an occasional image in a mirror. I didn't like the style and I also wasn't a big fan of Robert Montgomery's portrayal of Marlowe.

:5510:
1096 - The Phantom Tollbooth (1970) - 5.5/10 - A young boy is bored until a big box shows up in his room and delivers a tollbooth and small car which take him into an animated fantasy world. The animation, songs, and story are kind of uninspired. It's not horrible, but it's not very good either.

:6510:
1097 - Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) - 6.5/10 - Grave robbers inadvertently awaken Larry Talbot from where his body has rested for the last four years. He enlists the help of the gypsy woman from the first film and together they go in search of Dr. Frankenstein for his help, but only find his creature and unwelcoming villagers The first half of the film was pretty good, but I thought it became less interesting toward the end.

:610:
1098 - House of Frankenstein (1944) - 6/10 - A scientist who has been in prison for many years escapes with a hunchback (not Ygor) and makes his way to the village of Frankenstein. He comes across and revives Dracula, the Wolf Man, and Frankenstein's Monster. This was a small step down from Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, but still had a few interesting parts.

:7510:
1099 - Mad Love (1935) - 7.5/10 - A skilled surgeon named Gogol (Peter Lorre) is obsessed with an actress (Frances Drake), though she is married. The husband (Colin Clive) of the actress is a talented pianist and when he is in an accident that will cost him his hands, Gogol transplants the hands of a murderer onto the husband, but the hands seem to remember how to throw knives. A nice performance by Lorre and a good movie overall.

:7510:
1100 - Olympia Part 2: Festival of Beauty (1938) - 7.5/10 - I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first part, but it was still good.

:810:
1101 - I Walked with a Zombie (1943) - 8/10 - A Canadian nurse travels to the island of Saint Sebastian to care for the wife of a plantation owner. The wife is in a zombie like state due to an illness that left her that way. The nurse starts falling for the plantation owner and looks for a way to cure the wife, even resorting to enlisting the help of native voodoo practitioners. The film looks nice and has great atmosphere along with good acting performances.

:610:
1102 - Creature with the Atom Brain (1955) - 6/10 - A criminal uses a German scientist to reanimate corpses and use them as zombies under his control to take revenge on other criminals and police. The film is very much stuck in the 50s in a number of ways, including the fascination with radioactivity, but is still fairly entertaining and moves along pretty quickly.

:510:
1103 - The Creature Walks Among Us (1956) - 5/10 - The poor creature is attacked and captured and then turned into an air-breather. The acting and story aren't really all that great. You also have the obligatory female member of the group who is married to a sexist scientist nearly twice her age. She might be the most sympathetic character in the group.

:610:
1104 - The Giant Claw (1957) - 6/10 - The pilot of a series of test flights over the North Pole sights a UFO the size of a battleship. It is investigated, but he is not believed. It turns out to be a giant bird that attacks planes, people, etc. and causes many disruptions. The special effects for the creature are very, very bad, but I thought the rest of the film wasn't too bad, especially the first half of it.

:7510:
1105 - Dracula (1958) - 7.5/10 - Peter Cushing (as Dr. Van Helsing) and Christopher Lee (as Dracula) headline this version of Dracula. It provides plenty of atmosphere and is pretty entertaining.

:710:
1106 - Black Sunday (1960) - 7/10 - A witch and her servant are revived 200 years after being executed and they seek revenge on the descendants of the man responsible for their deaths. It's well shot with plenty of atmosphere.

:710:
1107 - Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) - 7/10 - I'd seen the first two Halloween movies, but didn't really know much about the rest of the series. It was nice to see that this one is a bit different. A company that makes Halloween masks has a secret agenda this year. It's certainly not perfect, but it was fun.

:410:
1108 - Belladonna of Sadness (1973) - 3/10 - A woman makes a deal with the devil after being raped by the nobility. I can see why some people like this film, but I didn't like the art, story, or pacing. It did have some decent music, though.

:610:
1109 - Dead Ringers (1988) - 6/10 - Jeremy Irons plays identical twin gynecologists. One of the twins is more social while the other is more hesitant and shy. I found it to be kind of dull and uninteresting.

:710:
1110 - Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2000) - 7/10 - D is hired to track down a woman who was taken by a vampire, but other vampire hunters are also on the case. This was decent. I've read some of the manga based on the novel series, but hadn't seen the movies.

:710:
1111 - The Last Man on Earth (1964) - 7/10 - Vincent Price, Vampire Hunter. Okay, well almost. Three years ago, a plague swept the world, killing or turning the rest of humanity into sort of vampire zombies who could only go out at night. Price is the only one who can go out by day since he seems to have an immunity to the plague.

:810:
1112 - The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) - 8/10 - An American writer living in Rome witnesses a struggle between a woman and a dark clad figure in an art gallery. He is unable to intervene, but starts investigating himself after telling his story to the police. The figure that he witnessed may be a serial killer since there have been a few recent murders. I thought this was pretty well done.

:6510:
1113 - They Have Changed Their Face (1971) - 6.5/10 - An employee at a car company gets invited out to the country estate of the director, but discovers that the director isn't quite who he seemed to be. This is sort of a corporate dracula tale. The film isn't bad, though I wanted to like it more than I did.

:8510:
1114 - Night of the Comet (1984) - 8.5/10 - Teenage Mutant Comet Zombies! A rare comet passes the Earth and inspires tons of comet parties. Unfortunately, it ends up turning most of the population to dust with a few survivors and some partial survivors who have become zombies. It's plenty of fun.

:810:
1115 - Gojira (1954) - 8/10 - I'd only seen the American version of the film before and that was about 30 years ago so it was nice to see this version.

:610:
1116 - Black Adam (2022) - 6/10 - The special effects weren't bad, but there were so many things in this film that didn't really make sense, such as the composition of the Justice Society team that was sent in and why they would have jurisdiction anyway. There were decent bits here and there, but it really wasn't a very good film.

:710:
1117 - Kill, Baby...Kill (1966) - 7/10 - A doctor travels to a Carpathian village to perform an autopsy on a woman who died. He finds superstition and strange circumstances there. Lots of atmosphere and a pretty good gothic horror film.

:610:
1118 - Paraguayan Hammock (2006) - 6/10 - An older couple set up their hammock and sit in the shade, waiting for rain. They have a long conversation about many things - when will the rain come, will the nearby dog ever shut up, etc., but eventually get to the point. There are also a few conversations that take place in their memories. It's not the most thrilling film, but it is kind of interesting.

:6510:
1119 - Michael (1924) - 6.5/10 - A well known, but aging painter, dotes on his young male model named Michael who has served as his inspiration for years. A fracture in their relationship occurs when a poor Russian princess shows up seeking to have her portrait painted and Michael falls for her.

1120 - Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life (1925) - 7.5/10 - This documentary follows the Bakhtiari people as they migrate between their homes in Turkey and Iran so that their herds will have grass to eat. There are a number of interesting shots and I liked the film, though I think the later People of the Wind documentary was a bit better.

1121 - October (Ten Days That Shook the World) (1927) - 7.5/10 - The film covers the revolutions in Russia in 1917 and the various battles and events of the time. The editing is perhaps more interesting than the content.

1122 - Invaders from Mars (1953) - 6.5/10 - A young boy witnesses a spaceship landing near his house during the middle of the night. He later observes that people who disappeared near the landing site return altered in mannerisms. The effects and plot are fairly simple, but the movie still manages to entertain.

1123 - Mill of the Stone Women (1960) - 7/10 - A journalist is doing an article on a sculptor and visits him at his home, which is known as the Mill of the Stone Women due to a carousel featuring statues of women. The journalist falls for the sculptor's daughter, but soon learns that the sculptor and his daughter have a dark secret. I thought it was a pretty nice horror film with nice sets and use of color.

1124 - The Whip and the Body (1963) - 6/10 - A nobleman who enjoys sadomasochism returns home, but soon dies. His ghost haunts the woman that he was once engaged to marry. It had its moments, but not that great overall.

1125 - They Live (1988) - 7.5/10 - Roddy Piper stars as a drifter who gets a job at a construction site in LA and befriends one of his coworkers. He stumbles upon a pair of sunglasses that show his true surroundings - aliens walk among us in disguise and actually are the overlords of the human race. That doesn't sit well with him so he sets out to do something about it. It's a fun movie.

1126 - Zombi 2 (1979) - 6/10 - This unofficial Dawn of the Dead sequel isn't too bad. It does have zombie vs shark action at least. The dead are rising on a Caribbean island due to a voodoo curse. When an abandoned boat with a zombie on board is found near New York City, a reporter and the daughter of the boat's owner go to the Caribbean to investigate.

1127 - The Day He Arrives (2011) - 5/10 - A film director and professor arrives in Seoul to meet a friend. When the friend doesn't show, he spends three days walking around town meeting people and having conversations. It wasn't very interesting. I had a similar reaction to Hill of Freedom so I don't think this director's work is for me.

1128 - Near Dark (1987) - 7/10 - A young man is bitten by his date and turned into a vampire. She is part of a group of vampires that travels around in a van, killing and feeding along the way, but he doesn't want to partake in those activities. It's a good film with a nice soundtrack.

1129 - Trouble Every Day (2001) - 5/10 - An American couple go to Paris for their honeymoon, but the husband has an ulterior motive and wants to track down a couple that he knew in the past. I can see that this was professionally done, but I didn't care much for the film.
